Get some tea on the go and watch as I bumble through my narrowboat renovation.
In this episode I continue the plumbing and start making the bathroom furniture. I make a countertop for my handbasin from hardwood, do a lot of painting, fit the water heater and start connecting it all up.

    get yourself a couple of the plastic pipe cover rings used to cover holes in laminate flooring to cover the slightly bigger holes they split in half and are cheap the do in wood or white or chrome effect solves bigger hole probs also with 15mm pipes going through framing you will need more than 16mm holes to allow for expanstion if not youll get creaking ps make sure the plug waste you got is one that is not got a slot cut in for an over flow as it wont seal

    A carousel shelf unit will solve the cupboard puzzle no problem. You can get them with about 3 shelves that would fill that whole space then you only need a small opening so you can access and rotate them. Used to have one in practically the same size of corner and you can store loads in them.

    • @EddHawkes

      Cheers David. I did consider one of those before I cut the cupboard down. I don't think they make the best use of the space though. I'm at peace with a cupboard in the living room now and it might actually be quite useful 😂

    Loved the video mate. Progressing quite quickly! The bike as a saw bench is brilliant 👌 What's the deal with parking the boat, do you need a permit? Is there time limits? I assume you could see the camera when you were motoring through those trees?? Had me on the edge of my seat haha. Constructive feedback - i love the fast forward voices/hammering the time lapse style sections, however perhaps some royalty free lofi or similar over the top/instead? 😅 Keep the updates flowing, boat is starting to look amazing!

    • @EddHawkes
      @EddHawkes Місяць тому

      Thanks for the feedback mate. Music and the timelapse sections is something I've been thinking about but finding decent totally free music is SO time consuming. I don't have the budget to buy royalty free stuff. It's something I need to figure out soon though. That bike has been so useful! I pay an annual licence fee to the Canal & River Trust to keep the boat on the canal. There are various types of licence but I have a Continuous Cruiser one, which means I have to move every 14 days. You have to be on a continuous journey, rather than shuttling between two spots and you have to do at least 20 miles in a year. Haha, yes I was actually holding onto the camera because it would have got knocked over otherwise! It's a good POV of what it's like to criuse on a canal boat though, there are all sorts of low hanging obstacles on the canal 😄

I did have a couple of areas which had a bit of give and squeaked, so I spent some time putting extra screws in and that sorted it out. The green paint is GoodHome from B&Q. The colour is called Limerick. I used the silk version which I'm happy with. I did actually buy the matt version to start with but it really absorbed the light. Not sure about your engine but my boat has a closed cooling system so you have a pump around the engine and a raw water pump to bring the water from the sea in my case

      My boat has skin tanks which I thought was a closed system. I suppose the extra pump could be to assist the main pump. The skin tanks do add a huge volume to the original engine cooling system.

    Loose the hoodie strings!...big problem if they get caught in a pulley while working on a motor.

    Hi, can I advise that you coat the gasket with a light smear of silicone sealant to waterproof it. Grease the studs too. Seepage caused the corrosion that locked it in place. clean the alloy stub and apply a light smear of silicone to stop corrosion where the hoses fit. Just looking at the heat exchanger stub, I reckon a whole new set of hoses are due. It's possible that the antifreeze has become acidic, maybe flush and renew it at the same time? What are the water pump bearings like? A clean engine will show up leaks more easily.

      Thanks for this, Rob. Great advice. I'm still relatively new to boating so I'm still a bit clueless! Servicing and cleaning up the engine is on my (long!) list of things to do. It is the first thing I'm going to do once the cabin is refitted.
